Homemade Butterbeer

A lot of my posts seem to be about my sweet husband lately.  For a couple years, now, he has been begging me to indulge his love of Harry Potter and learn how to make one of his favorite drinks that the children in this book series love to partake in.  Speaking of Harry Potter, have you ever noticed the Christian allegories and themes that are present throughout this modern work of literature?  Using powers for good and not evil, Good triumphing over evil, sacrificial atonement, resurrection, and not giving death the last word are just some of the themes that run parallel to the message of Christ.  Harry himself serves as a Christ-type in these manuscripts by J.K. Rowling.   Part of reaching beyond our reach as believers is to think critically and to recognize the power of truth even in imagination.  Much like C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein, J.K. Rowling has used the gift of writing that God has given her to point to the hope of Christ even amidst her own personal battles of faith.  Whatever talents and skills God has blessed you with, nothing honors Jesus more than pointing others back to Him and His glory.

Now, onto our recipe.  Are you ready for this? Butterbeer is the drink of choice for this post!  First off, let me assure you that this is NOT alcoholic.  We are teetotlers, so you’ll never find any alcohol based drinks on this site! When you see the word “beer” in the name, think root beer.  But, it doesn’t taste a thing like nasty ole root beer, though.  It’s marvelous! It’s cream soda based and is oh-so-frothy with it’s buttery cream topping! My husband insisted that we cheer “Hoggity Hoggity Hogwarts!” as we clinked our glasses of this fun, yummy drink together beside our Christmas tree.  What a fun memory we now have!  I hope you’ll enjoy this treat as much as we did!
