World’s Best Cinnamon Rolls

OK, Y’all. These really are the world’s best cinnamon rolls. And I almost panicked because I forgot to “Pin” this recipe at first and thought it was forever lost! My family came up for a visit over spring break.  We all decided to take a road trip to D.C. and I thought, “What better way to start a road trip than with home made cinnamon rolls?”  We all were overjoyed with the delicious melt-in-your mouth cinnamon rolls that these little ole hands made.  Want to know a secret, though? I refrigerated one batch and froze the other…uncooked. And that, my friends, is how I impressed my house full of company with this superb breakfast treat! So, think ahead to that Sunday School breakfast or holiday brunch you are fast approaching and give these a whirl.  You will not be disappointed and neither will your crowd!

World’s Best Cinnamon Rolls

Reach For:

(For the dough)

1 cup warm milk
1 egg (room temp), slightly beaten
¼ cup butter, melted
¼ cup vegetable oil
½ cup white sugar
½ tsp salt
3 ½ cups flour plus more for dusting
1 (.25 oz) package (2 ¼ tsp) instant dry yeast

(For the Filling)

½ cup (1 stick) butter, melted
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
3 TBSP cinnamon

(For the Icing)

½ cup butter, softened
¼ cup cream cheese, softened
1 ½ cups powdered sugar

Instructions:

Pour milk, egg, melted butter, oil, sugar, and salt into an electric mixing bowl.  Add flour on top of liquids, sprinkling yeast on top. Use the dough hook to mix these ingredients on medium speed until the dough is smooth and elastic, adding additional flour as needed (approx. 5-7 minutes) Place dough in greased bowl and cover with a wet towel or greased piece of saran wrap.  Allow dough to rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour, in a warm place.  Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon.  Set aside.  Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and roll into a large rectangle.  Spread surface evenly with melted butter and sprinkle sugar mixture on top.  Use your hands to make the entire surface evenly coated. Beginning with the long side, roll dough pinching the seam to seal.  Cut log into 12 pieces, placing them in a greased 9×13 Pyrex or baking pan.  Cover with a damp towel and allow to rise for 30 minutes.  To make the frosting, beat butter, cream cheese, and sugar on medium-high speed for 3 minutes. Set aside.  Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake rolls for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.  Frost with icing.  Best served warm!  Reheats well. (Rolls may be frozen until ready to bake. Thaw before baking).
