Jean Jones’ Cookie Cake

OK.  So, Pinterest is great and all, but it just can’t satisfy every craving.  I was scrolling through the other day looking for the perfect cure for my sweet tooth.  And then I thought to myself, “This is ridiculous.  I just want some of Jean Jones’ Cookie Cake.”  I shut my lap top and marched myself into my kitchen to get my home church cookbook.  That thing is well loved.  So well loved that the cover has fallen off and the pages are beginning to fade from so many page turns through the years.  Now, who is Jean Jones, you ask?  She’s one of the sweetest, most dedicated, faithful Christian women you’ll ever meet.  She is one of the head cooks to any church meal or function that we ever have.  She and her kitchen crew are absolutely amazing and such a vital part to our church.  They are behind the scenes people who have some of the greatest servants’ hearts that I’ve ever witnessed.  Not only have they taken care of so many church luncheons and special functions, but specifically they’ve been the ones to carefully organize meals for my family (and many others) for funerals and weddings.  It’s a ministry that I know honors the Lord well as they serve as His hands for helping to care for His people in some of their darkest and most joyful times.  I tell you what.  Jean is one of the best cooks I’ve ever known.  You mention her chicken n’ dumplings and everyone drops what they’re doing and run to the Family Life Center to get a bowl.  But back to her cookie cake.  Oh boy.  This, my friends, is what my childhood tasted like.  Almost every birthday growing up, my mom would make me one of her cookie cakes and decorate it like a clock with the hand pointing to whatever age I was saying, “It’s time to watch Emily a Happy Birthday.”  It’s been years since my mom has made me one.  So, it was high time I made one myself.  Want to know a secret? I like it best the day after it’s made because the icing gets this awesome crunch to it.  Next time you need a great crowd pleasing dessert, this is it.  Oh, it’s amazing.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

    1. Thank you, Jocelyn! I hope you enjoy it!!! I actually made it for the second time in 3 weeks last night as I realized that ahhhhhh! It was our turn to bring breakfast to Sunday School today. I had several hugs, a few near tears, and a comment that this will probably be served in Heaven lol. So, hopefully that’ll give you a good idea of how beloved this cake is! Give your kitchen committee hugs next time you see them!
