Amazing Love and Grace

I have never realized how romantic this story is. Abraham makes his servant covenant with him to go find a wife for his son from his own people so as to ensure that she is a righteous woman. Afterall, Isaac was to be the heir of Abraham’s inheritance and be one of the founding fathers of God’s people. If a Caananite woman was his wife, the path of this nation would be compromised due to lack of righteousness.

So, the servant goes to find Isaac’s wife (perhaps an early form of e-harmony?). He prayed that God would give him a sign and He did to a t. The woman just up and left her family. Rebekah and Mr.Servant are just pulling their camels into town and she jumps off and runs at this guy walking toward them on the road. I imagine a slow motion romantic movie as they run into eachother’s arms. It was none other than love at first sight. Scripture says that Jacob took Rebekah into his mother’s tent and he was comforted after his mother’s death.Isn’t it amazing that when God takes someone we love away, He sends a new love to comfort us? It may be blatent or it may be subtle. The sufficiency of His grace…it’s so amazing.
